Mengying Yu, a graduate of the BA Applied English programme at ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½, presented a paper on her research into language education at the third international conference of (CAERDA), affiliated with the American Educational Research Association (AERA).

The international event, held at Lingnan Normal University in Guangdong Province, China, drew attendees from the US, Singapore, and the Greater China region.

Mengying¡¯s paper, entitled ¡®Effect size reporting in language education research: A case study of the System journal¡¯, explores the effect size reporting practices in language education research, taking the journal as a case study.

¡°Effect size is an objective measure of the magnitude of an observed effect,¡± explained Mengying (pictured above). ¡°Yet, little is known about the status of effect size reporting in the field of applied linguistics. My paper contributes to a comprehensive picture of effect size reporting practices in related fields,¡± she said.

Mengying¡¯s paper was based on her Final Year Project at ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½. Her supervisor, Dr Rining Wei, commented: ¡°Researchers in language fields often refer to the publication guidelines published by . I am very proud that Mengying presented her research at an international conference associated with such an influential professional body,¡± he said.

¡°My classes at ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½ inspired my interest in doing research and provided me with the necessary knowledge in linguistics and research methodology,¡± added Mengying.
