Title: Intriguing Problems from Analysis, Number Theory and Probability

Abstract:
We are going to discuss interesting problems from various areas of mathematics. Some problems can be elegantly solved by using only methods from probability.
A few topics from the list below will be covered in detail:
· Combinatorial and algebraic identities and inequalities.
· There are infinitely many casino numbers.
· Bernoulli Law of Large Numbers, Weierstrass theorem, Bernstein polynomials.
· Uspensky problem and its far-reaching extensions.
· Distributions and moments: The phenomenon “Non-uniqueness”.
· Interpretations and solutions of the equation X + Y = XY.
· Values of the Riemann zeta function through the Cauchy distribution.
· Some conjectures and open questions.
The material is intended for a broad audience, including undergraduate and graduate students in mathematical sciences, as well as professionals in the field.

Bio:
Professor Jordan Stoyanov was born in Bulgaria and earned his scientific degrees in probability from Moscow State University under the guidance of Albert Shiryaev, a prominent member of the Kolmogorov School. He is a Fellow the IMS and ISI. With 88 published papers and 6 books, including the well-known “Counterexamples in Probability,” he has been actively involved in diverse professional tasks.
Prof. Stoyanov has been a visiting professor at several universities worldwide, teaching a variety of courses and supervising students for MSc and PhD degrees. He lived and worked in the UK for nearly 20 years, became a British citizen, and made significant contributions to Newcastle University.
Since his retirement, he enjoys pursuing his hobbies: mathematics, reading, sports, music, history, arts, travels, giving seminars, sharing his experience with people around.
Currently, he is engaged in conducting a unique online course, “Mathematics Projects: Writing and Presenting”, for students at Taishan College, Shandong University, Jinan.
